For a new year

IMG_0951_zps5482f8b7

Do not dwell in the past

do not dream of the future

concentrate the mind on the present moment Buddha

Although I am not buddhist, I like the reminder. I don't do new year's resolutions because I believe we get to start over again every day, every moment. But this doesn't mean I think you should feel the same. Resolutions can be a nice way to start the year.

About the nasturtium above, I saw this vibrant fleur peeking out today at on the path, as if it was saying hello.

Cheers to my hardy volunteers

If I didn't sow any seeds, I know I would have a large mountain of volunteer nasturtiums and pumpkin plants, sure to overtake the other plots around me. By the way, know this is not a way to become popular and well-liked in a community garden.

In the center my plot would sprout a humongous tower of nasturtiums, flowers waving gaily at everyone. On the sides would be the volunteer pumpkins.

Here are two that grew over this summer, despite the wet and cold weather we endured that we euphemistically called 'summer'.

Determined nasturtiums

I'm struck by the brash florescence of these nasturtiums, quite photogenic, and with how they snuck in using the thornless boysenberry bush as one giant lattice. If I didn't weed my garden plot not one bit, I would simply have one giant mound of nasturtiums reaching up to the sky.
PS Why I have the word thornless highlighted in yellow above is beyond me.

Nasturtium nestled near nettles

They spring wild in the bare spots of my garden plot. I'm not a wild weeder so I don't mind.

Nasturtium hiding

If I didn't weed, not one bit, my plot would probably look like one large mound of nasturtiums reaching up to the sky. They need not fear me, however. I think the nasturtiums know I like them, their florescent fleurs and indomitable spirit. Here's one hiding underneath the garden hose.
