These new tomatoes on my Japanese Black Trifele, a cooler climate tomato leaves me quite surprised, as this was planted not very long ago. Gary Ibsen's Tomatofest site, my go-to reference site for cooler climate tomatoes, reports this is a black pear shaped tomato, originally from Russia. My curiosity piqued, I wondered: what about the Japanese part of the name? And so far I'm batting zero in my googling.
